Crosscut Canal Path Adds to DT’s Outdoor Amenities

Runners, cyclists and anyone wanting to experience the Sonoran desert without leaving the urban environment have a new option with the opening of the Tempe Crosscut Canal Multiuse Path.

Located on the eastern edge of the Discovery Triangle, the one-mile paved path is an extension of the first phase of the Crosscut Canal Multiuse Path, which starts at the Tempe/Scottsdale boundaries near McDowell Road and 68th Street. The new section continues south from Evelyn Hallman Park near College Avenue and Curry Road, winding through the scenic and wildlife-rich Papago Buttes and ending near Mill Avenue and Moeur Park.

At the highest point, the trail offers views that span the Southeast Valley and central Phoenix. Visible to users on the path are landmarks such as Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe Town Lake, Chase Field and South Mountain.

The path provides residents with not only additional recreation options, but also regional transit connections. The end point of the Crosscut Canal Multiuse Path is a half mile from a Valley Metro light rail station.
